1 dead, 1 injured following Thursday night shooting in Killeen

Killeen Police Department is investigating a shooting that occured Thursday night in the 3600 block of Holbert Drive.

According to the police report, officers say they received an emergency at 10:54 p.m. They say the caller told them a shooting had just occurred in the 3600 block of Holbert Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they found several people at the home on Holbert Drive, with two gunshot victims outside this residence.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the resident of the home was confronted by three males at his residence. A verbal altercation ensued, which escalated into a physical altercation when one of the males assaulted the resident. Shots were fired, and two of the three males were shot.

One victim, a 21 year old Fort Hood soldier, was suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso. He was transported by ambulance to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. Later, he was transferred to Scott & White Memorial Hospital where he remains in stable condition. The other victim, Jamie Lee Schnider, 22, also a Fort Hood soldier, was pronounced dead at 11:37 p.m. by J.P. Garland Potvin. An autopsy was ordered to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas. The resident was taken into custody by officers and transported to the Killeen City Jail.

Detectives continue to investigate the shooting and the case will be reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office. Information will be released as it becomes available.

The name of the resident has been withheld pending the return of the Bell County District Attorney’s office review.
