15-year-old murder case set to resume

The trial for a 15-year-old murder case is set to resume again, after being postponed last month due to confusion over a plea agreement that was believed to have dismissed the case back in 2002.

James Earl Williams is accused of a 1998 drive-by shooting that left one man dead.

The defense argues Williams was dismissed of this case in exchange for pleading guilty to assault and robbery in connection to the shooting.  However, last Thursday, the 10th Court of Appeals denied a petition filed by Williams' attorneys, which claimed the charge had been cleared.

54th District Court Judge Matt Johnson ordered a trial reset date for September 23.
