A 16-year-old teen is dead following a single vehicle accident Wednesday night in College Station.

The accident happened in the 17000 block of Earl Rudder Freeway just after 11:30.

Police say a 17-year-old driver was traveling southbound on the frontage road when he left the roadway to the west for some unknown reason.

It appears he tried to overcorrect, causing the vehicle to come back on the roadway and then leave again to the east, rolling at least one time.

The driver suffered non-capacitating injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The 16-year-old female passenger, Sydney Jeter, was pronounced dead at the scene. College Station ISD offiicials say she was going to be a junior at A&M Consolidated.

A prayer vigil for the two is being held Thursday night at 8 p.m. at the Tigerland Stadium.
