A California teen who recently moved to Slidell is now facing attempted murder charges. Police say he used the rusty machete pictured above against his brother’s friend.

The Slidell Police Department reports that the incident happened on Thursday, June 27. When officers arrived to the 1700 block of Lynnwood Drive, they found a 31-year-old suffering with a major cut to his neck and ear.

The victim told police that the 16-year-old attacked him from behind.

“It is presumed that the juvenile was trying to strike the victim in the neck, but instead, missed and chopped off the victim’s right ear lobe, nearly missing his carotid artery,” a release stated.

Officials say the teen recently moved to Slidell from the Los Angeles area. He was allegedly part of a gang called MS-13.

“The juvenile’s brother moved him to Slidell in hopes of giving him a better life,” the release noted.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he is currently recovering from his injury.

The teen was arrested and charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder. He is being held in the Florida Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
