Two local Bryan men were honored at Tuesday night's city council meeting for their heroic acts last month.

Felix Chester and Carlos Cardenas were both given the Civilian Service Citation award from the Bryan Police Department, as well as the Citizen Award from the Bryan Fire Department for risking their lives to help save a trapped A&M student.

On May 6, 2013 Nicolette Elvir was driving her SUV on SH 47 when a dump truck collided with her causing her car to flip and land upside down.

Chester and Cardenas saw the accident and stopped to help.

Together the two pulled Nicolette, who was trapped upside down in her vehicle, out of the burning car.

Minutes after she was pulled to safety, Nicolette's car was fully engulfed in flames.

That is really an appreciable work; saving a life seems to be the most humble and kind practice. Accidents are quite common now days and due to speed factor and distraction driving habits encourage the term accident. I hope people were able to understand the importance of life; otherwise we can only repay our vehicle's damage not our life.

Car accidents are frequent but we need to applaud the efforts of Felix Chester and Carlos Cardenas. Saving the life of a person from a burning car is an act of courage. It is necessary that if you are driving at night then you make use of xenon headlights as they give better vision and make driving safer.

Car accident is very common but to save the people from car burning is really a tough task and also we all need to respect those peoples. When women’s are driving sometime they forgot about the engine that leads to car crash or car burning. In this entire situation it is the duty and everyone to save these types of cases.
