2 killed, 1 critically injured in fiery weekend wreck

Two people died over the weekend in a fiery wreck on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of MLK shortly after 2 a.m . on Saturday, according to the Waco Police Department. When they arrived, patrolmen discovered a car speeding northbound on MLK had lost control, skidded through a ditch for about 150 yards, then crashed into a tree and caught fire.

The driver, Eric Wardell, 28, of Robinson, and Stephanie Perez, 22, of Garland, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. Perez was pronounced dead at the scene, and Wardell later died at a local hospital.

A third passenger, Dustin Wardell, 23, of Lorena, is in serious conditional at a local hospital.
