Accident on Highway 21 kills one

A fatal two car collision earlier today on Highway 21 shut down both lanes of traffic for nearly four hours.

The accident happened just after 12:30 in a construction zone in Madison County.

DPS tells us construction workers were stopping traffic when a box truck full of plumbing equipment slammed into the back of a oil tanker already stopped.

The driver of the box truck was transported to St. Joseph hospital in Bryan where he was pronounced dead.

His identity is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.

The driver of the oil tanker was not injured.
