Authorities release IDs of those involved in Saturday's auto-pedestrian crash

Officers have released the identity of the victim killed in Saturday's early morning auto-pedestrian crash in Waco.

Randy Sommerfelt, 60, was killed when a vehicle, driven by Monica Juarez-Salazar, 18, struck him.

According to police, the accident happened at 8:30 a.m. Saturday when officers with Waco Police were called to an auto-pedestrian accident at the intersection of North 22nd Street and Park Lake Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they found that a vehicle was heading westbound on Park Lake Drive when it struck a pedestrian. The investigation, so far, revealed that for an unknown reason, a vehicle driven by Juarez-Salazar, veered into the bicycle lane hitting Sommerfelt, who was walking westbound on Park Lake Drive.

Sommerfelt was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead by doctors at 9:09 a.m.

Crime Scne Unit, Accident Reconstruction Detectives, and Victim Services assisted Waco Police in this incident.

The cause of this crash is still under investigation.
