A Bellmead woman has been arrested for child abandonment and endangerment,

Waco Officers Arrest 27-year-old, Stefanie Renee Stocks, after they received a call stating a small child was alone and wandering near the roadway on LaSalle Avenue.

Once on scene officers discovered a three-year-old boy by himself near the intersection of 7th and LaSalle.

Officers secured the child and asked for assistance from the Victim Services Unit due to the condition of the child.

The child was very dirty, as well as very hungry and thirsty. The responding officers at the scene bought the child pancakes, hash browns and some chocolate milk from a nearby restaurant. One of the officers changed the child’s extremely dirty diaper and the toddler’s soiled clothing with new clothing our Victim Services employees purchased while on-scene.

Victim Services transported the child to a local hospital where he is being treated for various needs. Some of those include cuts and scratches, what appear to be burn marks from cigarettes and a severe case of diaper rash.

The responding officers continued the investigation and found a van in the 700 block of Oakwood with indicators the child had been in it.

Shortly after, we received a call of an individual down at the convenience store located at 300 block of LaSalle.

It was here Waco officials found the child’s mother, Stocks, passed out from what she told officers was heavy drug use.

CPS responded to Hillcrest Hospital and has taken custody of the little boy.
