UPDATE - The Belton Police Department believes they nabbed the man responsible for last week's string of car burglaries.

Steven Hardy, 22, was arrested and charged on Wednesday with felony Burglary of a Habitation and ten misdemeanor charges of Burglary of a Vehicle.

Police said it was Hardy who broke into unlocked cars in northern Belton on January 4th and 5th.

The Belton Police Department is investigating a string of car burglaries that occurred over the weekend.

The department said at least 12 unlocked cars were broken into.

The burglars even used garage door openers inside the cars to loot items from respective houses.

Paul Romer of the city of Belton said the activity happened in the northern area of Belton.

Police are in the process of questioning two men but as of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made.

The police department is using these crimes to remind everybody to lock their vehicle's doors and take valuable items out.

If anybody has any information on the crimes, please contact Belton PD immediately at (254) 933-5840.
