Benefit concert set to raise money for Dinwiddie, Denton families

A benefit concert is scheduled for next weekend in Harker Heights to raise money for the families of two officers involved in a Killeen shooting last month.

The "In the Line of Duty" benefit concert will be held at the Harker Heights Event Center on Saturday, June 21, at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $15.

According to Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith, the concert will benefit the Dinwiddie and Denton families. Authorities say four officers were attempting to execute a narcotic search warrant around 5:30 a.m. on May 9 at 1104 Circle M Drive, apartment 3 in Killeen when they were shot at by Marvin Louis Guy, 49.

Detective Charles "Chuck" Dinwiddie, died at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, at Scott and White Memorial Hospital from his injuries. Dinwiddie was an 18 year veteran with the department and spent 15 of those years on the SWAT Team.

Officer Odis Denton, a nine year veteran with the department, was shot in the leg. Two other officers were also shot, but their wounds were in an area protected by safety gear. They were treated and released from Scott & White shortly after being admitted.
