Waco, Texas — The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill, which was presented by Representative Bill Flores in March, to rename the Waco Veterans Affairs Memorial Center in honor of Navy officer Doris Miller.
Doris Miller, who was a Waco native, has been called a hero for his bravery during the Pearl Harbor attack in World War II. Flores has called Miller "one of Central Texas' greatest American heroes".
Under the legislation, the VA hospital would be named the Doris Miller Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The bill was passed Tuesday afternoon.
