Waco, Texas (KWKT) — The previously unidentified body found in Waco Creek on March 29, 2013 has been identified. It is that of 59-year-old Francisco Fidencio Reyes (aka “Pancho”).
Had it not been for a small scrap of paper with a phone number in Mr. Reyes’s wallet, he may never have been identified. That led detectives to a contact that was able to provide additional information on who the body may be. Hence the importance of always having some type of verifiable identification for emergencies, or the unfortunate circumstances such as this death.
His body was initially sent to SWIFS for an autopsy and DNA was collected. The DNA was later sent to the University of North Texas (submitted to the NamUs program) and compared to DNA samples collected from a relative.
Due to the state of decomposition on the body, the preliminary autopsy results are inconclusive as to the cause of death. Detectives have no reason at this point to indicate the death was caused by any type of foul play.
Family members of Mr. Reyes who reside outside of the United States have been notified of the death.
