Bryan, Texas (KWKT) — On Saturday, January 4, shortly after 11:00 p.m., a group of teens were released from Club Nice who was having a Tten night. At that time approximately 30-40 teens went across the street to the Star Grocery located at 1500 West William J Bryan. The group started out just dancing in the parking lot and causing a noise disturbance. At some point a few of the teens started stealing food items and encouraged others to steal as well. At this time several of them ran into the business and took snacks, candy, and drinks while the store clerk tried to shut the doors. They then fled the scene with approximately $200 worth of merchandise.
After the teens had left, the store clerk called the police for assistance. Officers were able to respond within 6 minutes of being dispatched but all the teens had fled the scene by that point. Thanks to the cooperation of most of the parents and some of the teens involved, all suspects have been identified. After consulting with the Brazos County District’s Office, Eleven juveniles have been charged with Riot which is a Class B misdemeanor and carries a punishment of up to 180 days in jail and $2000 fine. The teens that were charged are between the ages of 12 and 17 years of age. Because of their ages the names will not be released.
We appreciate that most of the parents in this case have cooperated fully during this investigation; therefore, the teens were allowed to turn themselves in yesterday. As of 1:30pm today, all but two have turned themselves into the Brazos County Juvenile Detention Center.
We encourage business to call as soon as they feel a problem may arise from customers so that officers may respond to handle the situation before it escalates.
