Burned body found in Killeen home

Authorities are looking into a questionable death that occurred Tuesday in Killeen on Taft Street.

At 7:00 p.m., officers who were patrolling the area of Veterans Memorial Boulevard and Jefferies heard an alarm sound. While investigating the noise, police came across a house with an alarm sounding in the 2700 block of Taft.

Officers began to investigate the home and saw a woman inside who had been burned, lying on the floor. Authorities made there way into the house and discovered the woman was unconscious.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the victim, a white woman in her mid 50s, dead at 8:00 a.m. Her body has been sent for autopsy.

The cause of the fire and death have not been determined at the time. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
