CALDWELL -- It's a shock for the Burleson County city of Caldwell where a registered sex offender is accused of murdering his girlfriend then sexually assaulting her teenage granddaughter.
Lauren Holman was at the standoff today and has the latest on this developing story.
John Christensen has lived in his home off Fawn Street for over a year and tells us the neighborhood has always been quiet and safe.
"We all get along and we haven't had any problems. That's exactly why I moved here, to get away from the big city crime and criminal activity."
But today all that changed when Christensen's neighbor down the street was brutally shot and killed inside her home.
Police say her boyfriend Eddie Lee, a registered sex offender, then sexually assaulted the woman's granddaughter.
"The first officer on scene was approached by a young female to his patrol unit and notified him that there was a situation going on down the street that she had just escaped from," said DPS Trooper, Jimmy Morgan.
When officers arrived Lee was still inside the home armed but after an hour and a half standoff, Lee surrendered to police.
When officers finally entered the home, they found the grandmother already dead.
"I'm sure the neighbors, as this unfolds, are going to be shocked that this actually happened in the neighborhood," Trooper Morgan said.
Christensen described the scene as pure hysteria.
"There were EMS all over the place, patrol cars everywhere and emergency management. It was definitely a disaster and a tragedy."
The Texas Rangers have taken control of the investigation and we're told Lee is cooperating.
The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
