A new king is now slithering the grounds throughout the Cameron Park Zoo.

The Zoo accepted a new King Cobra from the San Antonio Zoo on July 16th. The serpent is an 8-year-old female. She is 11 feet in length and weighs 10.12 pounds.

The zoo is asking the public to help pick one of the three names for the new Cobra by visiting their website or Facebook page.

The zoo staffers have suggested, "Lady Jaye", a character from the GI Joe and Cobra comic series, "Hannah", because the scientific name of the King cobra is Ophiophagus hannah (Ophiophagus means “snake eating and hannah has its origin in Greek mythology referring to wood nymphs, so the Latin name Ophiophagus hannah is loosely defined as snake eating forest dweller.) and "Shelby" in honor of the famous car created by Carroll Shelby.
