Construction worker falls to death at Kyle Field

Tuesday, December 3, 2013 - 6:22pm

A construction worker falls to his death at Kyle Field.

Tuesday morning university officials say 25-year-old Angel Garcia of Lindamood Demolition was working on the Kyle Field redevelopment project when he fell from the fourth level of the north end of the stadium.

He was immediately taken to St. Joseph's in Bryan where he died.

Steve Moore with the University System tells us, "I can tell you that we are investigating right now. On sight we have UPD, Manhattan Vaughn (who is the main construction company) and OSHA will be here momentarily."

This is the second time this year OSHA is investigating a construction worker being injured on the job at A&M.

In June four workers were seriously injured when the equine complex barn they were working on collapsed.

Release from A&M:

Officials confirmed that at approximately 11:25 a.m. today Angel Garcia, an employee of Lindamood Demolition, fell from the fourth level of the north end of Kyle Field on the campus of Texas A&M University. He was immediately transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Health Center in Bryan, Texas, where he passed away.

“The thoughts and prayers of all of us at the A&M System and within the Bryan and College Station community are with the Garcia family,” said A&M System Chancellor John Sharp.

“On behalf of Texas A&M University and the extended Aggie family I offer our deepest sympathy to the family of the construction worker who tragically passed away,” said Texas A&M University President R. Bowen Loftin.

The Texas A&M System, Manhattan-Vaughan Construction, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Texas A&M University Police Department will continue the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. No further details are available at this time.

Kyle Field is currently undergoing a $450 million redevelopment project that began immediately following the last home game of the 2013 Texas A&M football season.
