COLLEGE STATION -- It's the first of its kind in the Brazos Valley and one of only a few in the state, it's a hybrid garbage truck.
The city of College Station bought the new vehicle with the help from a U.S. Department of Energy grant.
The truck, which looks like the others and still functions the same, will help save the city thousands of dollars in fuel and maintenance costs.
Sanitation superintendent, Wally Urrutia, says they're excited about the newest addition to their fleet.
"In our job we're always researching new technology out there and what's going to be best for our environment and also for cost savings for the city so it's very important to us."
Urrutia says the city plans on adding additional hybrid trucks in the future to replace the old ones once they're no longer operational.
