Waco, TX (KWKT) — A Bellmead man has been arrested for stealing his dog from an animal shelter.
Michael Wade Fredrich, 27, was arrested for stealing his dog after failing to pay over $150 to a local animal shelter.
On March 22, 2013, Waco Police were contacted to investigate a case at the Waco Animal Shelter located at 2032 Circle Road.
Shelter personnel notified police that an individual, who owed fines for his dog, had trespassed into one of the restricted buildings. The suspect stole his dog and fled without paying fines he owed for the animal.
Fredrich went to the shelter to reclaim a Terrier-Pit Bull mix that had been pickup for being at-large, by Bellmead Animal Control officers.
Fredrich was ordered to pay $150 in fines to be able to reclaim the animal.
Fredrich sent his two daughters into the shelter to distract employees. As the shelter employees were busy with the kids, he snuck into the restricted area kicking in a fence, retrieved his dog and fled the shelter in his vehicle.
Warrants were obtained for Fredrich for Criminal Trespass and Theft over $50. He was arrested by Texas DPS and booked into the McLennan County Jail.
