Deputy involved in shootout while investigating kidnapping

Waco, TX — A deputy for the McLennan County Sheriff’s office was involved in a shootout Wednesday afternoon with a man Waco PD said kidnapped his own girlfriend.
As a result, the deputy suffered a non-lethal gunshot wound. The other man involved was sent to a local hospital with many gunshot wounds.
Sergeant Patrick Swanton of Waco PD said officers responded to the 3300 block of Lyle Ave. after they received a call of a possible kidnapping involving a man and a woman.
When they showed up, the two had already left.
Police narrowed down their location to the area of 12th and Baylor around 2 p.m.
A sheriff’s deputy was in the area and spotted the two near a storage unit.
That’s when the man and the deputy engaged in a quick shootout.
Exact details are still vague as of Wednesday afternoon.
“I can verify there was an officer that he was transported to a local hospital. I don’t have names, conditions or any information like that,” said Swanton. “We do believe the parties involved here at scene #2 are the same suspect and victim from our reported kidnapping earlier.”
The Texas Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshals Task Force and other law enforcement agencies were at the scene shortly after the shooting.
The female victim was not injured.
