Waco, Texas — A man was arrested and a dog was killed following an early morning house fire in Waco.
According to witnesses on the scene, the fire started around 2:55 a.m. at a home located in the 3500 block of Live Oak Street. A neighbor, who saw the fire, called authorities.
One of the witnesses identified herself as the victim’s mother. She said her daughter had been staying in the home for the past two years. But, for the last week her daughter and five grandchildren, who lived in the house, had been staying at another relative’s house. The mother says no electricity has been on in the house. The daughter was scheduled to move out of the house into an apartment today.
At this time, it appears the house is destroyed. Family members say the family’s dog was found dead inside of the living room, where they say the fire appears to have started. They believe the fire was intentionally set.
The fire marshal was still on scene investigating around noon, along with Waco PD. He wasn’t able to provide details at this time on the cause of the fire.
A relative, who was reportedly coming to help move the occupant, who was identified as his stepsister, was arrested on scene. Witnesses say police arrested him for domestic disturbance charges out of Killeen.
