Micah Gorena and his wife were startled awake early Wednesday morning by a loud noise coming from their kitchen.

They thought someone was trying to break into their Sara Drive apartment but they quickly realized that wasn't the case.

Gorena said, "I peered around the corner and saw the fridge toppled over. I thought it was a break in because things were messy and on the floor but then we peered out the house and saw the car."

Police tell us a driver swerved out of the way of an animal in the roadway and lost control of the car, slamming into the corner of Gorena's apartment just feet away from where he and his wife were sleeping.

Fortunately no one was seriously injured in the crash and Gorena says it's a wake up call that life is short and anything can happen.

"This is just one of those life lessons that you don't ever want to take anything for granted because an accident like this can happen very easily and we're very fortunate and very blessed to have our lives still and that's what matters," he said.

The couple spent Wednesday moving out and we're told Equity Real Estate is putting them in a temporary apartment..

The driver, whose name has not been released, was cited for failure to control his speed.  Police say drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
