Waco, Texas — Fireworks are now on sale for the Independence Day holiday.
Firework selling officially began Tuesday. And, with recent rains, getting to fire off your favorite "bottle rockets" and "black cats" shouldn't be a problem as many areas in Central Texas don't have burn bans in effect.
For many fireworks vendors, this holiday is typically the busiest for them. Some businesses report two times the sales of other holidays, like New Years. The influx in business, in turn, helps the local economy.
"The taxes that are collected as a result of the sale of fireworks helps a lot of the volunteer fire departments as well as the economic boost to the city because of the city taxes that the city also gets to collect," said Stars and Stripes Fireworks owner Daniel Fitzgerald.
Fire officials urge you to use caution when handling fireworks, of course. And, remember it is illegal to use them within Waco, Temple, and Killeen city limits.
