Flags stolen from veterans graves over weekend

Monday, June 2, 2014 - 4:14pm

The Little River-Academy Volunteer Fire Department has been putting flags on veterans graves for years now.Over the weekend more than 163 flags were stolen from three out of the five Bell County cemeteries that they visit. The flags were stolen from the Reeds Lake,Greathouse and Wilson Valley cemeteries. The department puts the flags on the graves about 3 times a year. The stolen flags will not be replaced due to the high cost of the flags. On an online statement, Chief David Borders stated,
"It's sad to have to tell you we won't be able to replace them unless we happen to get a lot of donations within the next week and a half in so we can order them so that they will be here before the Fourth of July when we put them out again. It's an honor to be able to do that but we also need the money to keep operating and repair trucks."

Anyone with information they are asked to call the Little River-Academy Department at 254-982-4251
