The former vice president of First National Bank in Whitney was sentenced to seven years in federal prison, after she pleaded guilty in March to embezzlement charges.

Mary Helen "Murty" Lane reportedly stole more than six million dollars from the bank, located in Hill County, over a period of ten years. Documents report most of the money was spent on lavish gambling trips to Las Vegas, Nevada and Shreveport, Louisiana.

Lane was an employee of the bank for 27 years until she resigned in January 2012.

U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith Jr. sentenced Lane to seven years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Lane will also have to pay $6,090,784.31 in restitution.
