Former sheriff's deputy gun stolen from local gym

Waco Police are asking for the public's help in sharing any suspcious activity you may have witnessed near Gold's Gym, especially after Thursday's gun theft.

According to authorities, they received a call shortly after noon on Thursday to to the Gold's Gym, located in the 200 block of North New Road, in reference to a theft. A retired McLennan County sheriff's deputy had gone to the gym to exercise. He had placed his handgun in a locker and locked it up with a pad-lock. The deputy worked out for about an hour and when he returned to the locker room to retrieve his property. That's when he discovered someone had cut the lock from the locker and stolen the handgun.

Police say there have been several thefts and burglaries in the Gold's Gym and also in the parking lot area outside of the gym.

Anyone with information on this or other thefts occurring at Gold's gym is asked to contact Detective Head at 750-3656 or Crime Stoppers at 753-HELP. Callers do not have to reveal their identities and may be eligible for a cash reward.
