After a night of beer and football, a Fort Hood soldier tragically shot another soldier in the face and killed him.

At 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Cantabrian Drive to reports of a shooting. When authorities arrived, they found three men inside a residence-- one with a gunshot wound to his face.

Investigators learned the three men were watching a football game and drinking alcohol, when at one point, one of the men, later identified as 27-year-old Patrick Edward Myers, pulled a gun, handling it in an unsafe manner, and shot the victim in his face.

The residents called 911 and upon the paramedics’ arrival, the victim was immediately taken by ambulance to Skylark Field where he was to be flown to a nearby hospital. During the ambulance ride, the 22-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:04 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin. He also ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The Bell County District Attorney’s Office is charging Myers with manslaughter. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin set his bond at $1,000,000. He is currently in the Bell County Jail.

The name of the victim has been withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
