Ft. Hood soldier killed in gunfire exchange with patrol officers

Fort Hood Directorate of Emergency Services patrol officers responded to a suspicious vehicle at approximately 3:20 a.m. Dec. 14 near Kouma Lake here.

While approaching the vehicle, a gunshot was fired from the suspicious vehicle. Officers returned fire, fatally injuring the vehicle occupant.

Life saving measures were initiated by the the officers and additional life saving steps were performed by emergency medical personnel. However, the individual was pronounced deceased by Bell County Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin.

Investigators later determined the 30-year old male occupant of the vehicle was a Fort Hood Soldier assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division.

The name of the deceased will not be released until 24-hours after notification of next of kin.

Circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.
