TEMPLE, Texas (April 15, 2013) The Salvation Army Center of Hope campaign received tremendous news recently that Temple residents, Elizabeth and Drayton McLane, have pledged a gift of $1,000,000 towards the project. The McLane family expression of generosity and support, along with the gifts of other individuals and foundations in the community, has effectively moved The Salvation Army’s plan for a comprehensive social service center from vision to reality.

In addition to their business interests, Elizabeth and Drayton McLane have devoted a large amount of time serving on civic and charitable committees, including the Boy Scouts of America, Scott and White Memorial Hospital, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Baylor University, and the United Way of Central Texas ― to name just a few. The Salvation Army is honored that the McLane family has chosen to support the new Center of Hope.

“Elizabeth and I are thrilled to be able to participate in this worthy and much needed Center of Hope,” said Mr. McLane. “We are indebted to The Salvation Army for all you do for those in need in our community. We are proud to call you a teammate.”

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place Monday, April 29, at 2:00 PM for The Salvation Army Center of Hope in Temple, located at Ave G & 9th St. The eagerly anticipated and desperately needed facility will have the capacity to provide emergency shelter, food, and rehabilitation, all combined under one roof. The most needy individuals in Eastern Bell County will find refuge, support, and love at the Center of Hope, as The Salvation Army continues to live out its mission and ministry, “meeting human needs in His name without discrimination.”

“The McLane family’s gift is a blessing that will enable The Salvation Army to fulfill our mission in this community,” said Captain Bill Shafer of the Temple Command. “Their support helps others see this as a legitimate cause and inspires them to participate.”

Combined with individual, corporate and foundation gifts, and funds from The Salvation Army, the project goal of $4.9 million is close to being achieved.

In addition to providing life’s most basic needs, the Center of Hope will provide much needed shelter and transitional housing programs for the city of Temple. The facility will include:
• Emergency shelter and transitional housing for women, men, and families with children
• Daily meals for the community and program participants
• Emergency Food Pantry
• Clothing assistance
• Classrooms for rehabilitation, educational, and life skills classes

• Indoor and Outdoor play areas
• Case work offices

An integral part of the Center of Hope will be a Salvation Army Worship Center. Worship services will take place each Sunday, led by The Salvation Army Officers, Captains Bill and Brenda Shafer, in addition to numerous church activities during the week.

“We are so excited to be breaking ground on the Center of Hope facility,” Captain Bill Shafer said. “The Salvation Army believes in a Holistic ministry and we are ready to minister to the needs of the people who will come to the Center of Hope.”

The Eastern Bell County Disaster Relief Center will also be an important component of the Center of Hope and will provide emergency response and supplies for local disasters. The Salvation Army Mobile Kitchen, capable of serving up to 2,500 meals per day, will be part of the Disaster Relief Center. This unit has proved extremely effective in The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Response efforts, including the fire at the First Baptist Church of Temple, the Salado floods, and Bastrop wildfires.

The Salvation Army is grateful for the support already received from the community of Temple for the project. For more information, or to make a donation to The Salvation Army Center of Hope, please call (254) 774-9996, or visit donate.salvationarmyusa.org/texas/templecohcc.
