A small plane crash over the weekend in Navasota seriously injures its pilot.

The crash happened just after 6:00 Saturday night in the River Haven community off Highway 105 West in Navasota.

DPS tells us a passerby noticed the pilot in a field waving for help.

The pilot, who is from Houston, was airlifted to a Houston hospital for treatment.

The glider plane went down in an empty field about two miles away from the Navasota airport.

"I don't know exactly why but I do know the pilot informed me that he was coming in incredibly too low and that it was pretty windy," said DPS Trooper Kenneth Balzekas. "He said he had a pretty hard gust of wind and then he went nose first into the field here."

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating to find out the exact cause of the crash.
