Grandmother and 18-month-old found slain in rural Walker Co. house

A normally quiet rural neighborhood about five miles outside of Huntsville in Walker County is now the scene of a tragic apparent double homicide.

"I actually talked with the captain of the Walker County Sheriff's Office this morning and they say they've never received any calls on this house at this residence so it's very shocking to the community as to what happened here yesterday," said DPS Trooper Erik Burse.

We're told at around 5:00 Wednesday evening 911 got a call about a gruesome murder on M. Williams Road.

When authorities arrived they found 55-year-old Shanta Crawford her and 18-month-old infant grandson, Aiyden Lewis, dead inside.

Neighbors are still trying to come to terms with what happened Wednesday night right next door.

Myra Crooks said, "I couldn't believe that anything would or could have happened like this, I mean, I just really can't. It's indescribable."

Crooks graduated from high school with the victim and has lived across the street for the last 15 years.

"I'm just, she wouldn't hurt a fly, she wouldn't bother anyone, she was very kind, very loving so who would want to do something so brutally to anyone?" she wonders.

Multiple agencies including the Walker County Sheriff's Office, DPS, the Texas Rangers and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office are investigating.

No arrests have been made and authorities won't say if there is a person of interest.
