Grass fire on Highway 6 shuts down southbound lanes

Southbound lanes of State Highway 6 in Bryan were shut down around the lunchtime commute as firefighters battled a grass fire.

The fire ignited around one 1:00 near the Briarcrest Drive exit, causing both of the southbound lanes to be shut down while crews worked to put out the flames.

Heavy smoke could be seen as far as a mile away.

After about two hours traffic was re-opened. Crews aren't sure what caused the fire to spark .
