Hewitt, TX — The final piece of the puzzle to Midway ISD's more than a half-million dollar security plan is now in.
Earlier this month, the district announced their plans to purchase $375,000 worth of new security cameras. Monday night, Hewitt City Council approved an inter-local agreement that would require two Hewitt police officers to work on Midway ISD's campuses this upcoming school year. This is all part of a two year security plan the school district has been working on to ensure maximum security.
"The great part about having this inter-local agreement with the police officers is that we'll have the three police officers that can go to all of our campuses, and they won't be stuck within their city's jurisdiction. Midway spans multiple municipalities," said Midway ISD Spokeswoman, Traci Marlin.
The district will also have a Woodway police officer and a part-time Truancy officer on duty. More than $200,000 will be spent on officer trainings, salaries, and use of equipment for the officers.
