High-speed chase ends with man's arrest on felony charges
Waco, Tx — McLennan County deputies and U.S. Marshals arrested a man who abandoned his car after it crashed Tuesday afternoon during a high-speed chase on Interstate 35 and then tried to escape on foot.
Ruben Mondragon was taken to the McLennan County Jail, according to McLennan County sheriff's Capt. Bubba Collier.
Deputies and U.S. Marshals had been trying to find Mondragon since he eluded them Tuesday morning as they tried to serve him with several felony warrants. Just after noon Tuesday, a deputy spotted Mondragon's car near 18th Street and Austin Avenue in Waco and tried to pull the wanted man over. A chase ensued along Austin Avenue and then to Interstate 35, where the fleeing driver headed toward Temple at speeds reaching 120 miles per hour. The highway chase ended when a tire blew on Mondragon’s car on the southbound interstate access road, in front Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, Collier said.
Paramedics were requested as a precaution, but Collier said Mondragon wasn’t injured.
