The Milam County Sheriff’s recovered a stolen Dodge pickup truck early Wednesday morning, after a high-speed chase ended in a wooded field, just northwest of Taylor.

Milam County Deputy, Sam Ferguson, observed the truck speeding on Highway 79, just west of Rockdale and attempted to stop the driver. After a quick attempt to elude the deputy in a rural neighborhood, the driver of the truck got back onto U.S. Highway 79 and traveled west at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The 30 minute chase ended in a wooded area outside of Taylor when the driver abandoned the truck and ran through the woods on foot.

Williamson County Law Enforcement, as well as Thorndale Police, set up a perimeter on the woods and called for assistance from a Travis County helicopter to search the area using FLIR. After about two hours, the search was called off when the driver could not be located within the search area. During the course of the investigation, deputies discovered that the truck had been reported stolen out of Bastrop County early in January of this year.

No persons were hurt during the pursuit, however a Milam County Sheriff’s patrol car sustained moderate damage while pursuing the driver of the truck through the wooded area.
