Humane Society urgently seeks adoptive parents for large animals

An influx of larger animals being brought to the shelter has the Humane Society of Central Texas asking the public to consider adoption.

Many of the larger breeds of dogs are not finding a forever home, which now has the shelter at full capacity. And, with puppy and kitten season just around the corner, officials say they need to make room. Otherwise, those bigger animals could face euthenization, starting with the oldest dogs.

"Going into puppy and kitten season, we know that we'll get an influx of, you know, puppies and kittens too. But, with that puppy, a lot of times, comes their momma, which is a large dog. So, it's just that we're trying to move things on," said Humane Society of Central Texas Director Don Bland.

The Humane Society will be out at Petco Saturday with animals available for adoption. They'll also host a "Paws in the Park" fundraiser on May 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
