Thursday, more than 550 McGregor students received iPads as a part of the district's mobile learning initiative.

The devices were issued to students in grades eight through 12. Each student will be required to use their iPads in every class, and each subject's core content has already been loaded onto the devices. The district has worked on implementing the new technology for three years now.

"We're catching up with our kids. The kids are used to the technology. They learn with the technology. And so, it makes sense to us to bring that into the classroom," said James Lenamon, Assistant Superintendent for McGregor ISD.

The iPads cost the district more than $500,000. Every student will be required to keep up with their iPad until they graduate or decide to leave the district.
