Killeen, TX (KWKT) — The Killeen Police Department is conducting a death investigation of a body that was found in the wooded area at 209 Root Ave. today June 2, 2013.
Officers responded to 209 Root after a 911 call was received at 2:09 p.m. telling them a deceased body was found. Upon the officers arrival they located a deceased person who was in the advanced stages of decomposition. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the person deceased at 2:42 p.m. and ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
UPDATE: June 4, 2013:
The deceased person located at 209 Root Ave has been identified as 31 year old Christopher Wayne Strickland. A family member reported him missing to the Belton Police Department on May 30, 2013; he had not been seen since May 24, 2013. Detectives were able to confirm his identity through identification on his person as well as fingerprints.
Strickland’s cause of death has not been determined at this time; detectives are awaiting further information from the medical examiner’s office with the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
