Killeen Police investigating officer involved shooting

Killeen Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place late Friday morning.

It happened around 11:38 a.m. in the 4500 block of Golden Gate, police were called for reports of a suicidal suspect at that location.

On arrival, police were attempting to talk to the man at the home but he was being uncooperative. As the officers continued to attempt to speak with him, he came outside of the home armed and began charging at one of the officers.

The officers commanded him to drop his weapon but he continued to charge an officer in a threatening manner, he officer was forced to defend himself by using deadly force.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.

He was then airlifted to Scott and White Memorial Hospital where he underwent another surgery.

He is listed in critical condition at this time.

Fortunately, there were no officers injured in this incident and the officer involved in this shooting has been placed on administrative leave, as is protocol.

The officer's name is also being withheld at this time.

The name of the suspect has also been withheld until the case has been reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney's Office and formal charges are returned.

The Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate this shooting and information will be released as it becomes available.
