Killeen police: Man shot dead answering knock at door

Killeen Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Tuesday morning.

Authorities were called to the area of Rainbow Circle at around 1:20 a.m. to reports of shots fired. When officers began checking the area, they were flagged down and directed to the 1800 block of Windward Drive, where they found a person who had been shot.

Detectives believe the victim was shot multiple times after answering a knock at the door. It is unknown at this time if the victim knew the shooter.

The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Tirell Deshawn Turner, of Killeen. Turner was pronounced dead at 2:01 a.m. His body has been sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas for an autopsy.

This investigation is ongoing.
