Killeen, Texas (KWKT) — The Killeen City Council unanimously voted for the purchase of 231,semi-automatic assault-style riffles, Tuesday night.
The new approval means each officer on the department will be armed with a new FNH FN-15 rifle. Each riffles will cost the city $875, making the total cost $202,125.
Men and woman police need to have the necessary tools to preform their job, said council member Jonathan Okray.
The department will receive an $80,000 weapons credit for trade-in of seized and/or retired weapons. Other funding for the new rifles will come from a state seizure account and from a 2013 Jag Grant.
