COPPERAS COVE, TEXAS – The Copperas Cove Police Department would like to announce its 2013 Law Enforcement Explorer Program. The program will run from July 8th, 2012 through July 26th, 2013. The Department is excited to offer this opportunity specifically designed for individuals interested in a career in law enforcement. The Explorer Program is intended to build upon that interest by providing a positive learning experience for each Cadet to gain a basic knowledge of skills and procedures related to the field of law enforcement. Twenty Cadets have already been selected and seated for this first session.

The Cadet (ages 14-20 years of age) will learn the “day-to-day” functions of a Police Officer while attending the three week (105 hour) Explorer Program Course Academy. All Cadets will receive instruction and are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
 Officer Safety
 Officer Code of Ethics
 Traffic Control
 Traffic Stop Procedures
 Crime Scene Photography
 Dispatch and Radio Etiquette
 Patrol Procedures
 Leadership
 City Geography
 Fingerprinting
 Crime Scene Investigation
 Teamwork, and much more

Attendance during the program is strictly enforced, and each Cadet will be required to maintain monthly training hours after graduating the Academy. Outstanding moral, ethical, and professional behavior is mandatory while the Cadet represents the Copperas Cove Police Department and the City of Copperas Cove. Every Cadet shall act as a positive role model to the citizens of Copperas Cove, both on and off “duty”.

The Explorer Program is a great opportunity for our Cadets to begin a strong foundation for a career in criminal justice and will assist them in becoming successful and productive members of society. The Copperas Cove Police Department firmly believes that with hard work, due diligence, compassion, and understanding, Cadets can contribute towards keeping the City of Copperas Cove a safer and more enjoyable community
