Thefts happen all the time but when authorities from six different counties: Brazos, Madison, Robertson, Montgomery, Grimes and Waller all began to see an increase in ATVs and trailers missing they realized it wasn't a coincidence.

'It was obvious this was a target item for thefts but nobody had any leads, nobody had any suspects, witnesses or forensic evidence," said Madison County Sheriff Neeley. "All we had were reports of stolen items."

Sheriff Neeley said the thieves were highly organized and knew what they were doing.

During the day they'd scout out their targets and then hit at night.

"They're all somehow connected to methamphetamine world, the illicit drug world, and they have a communication and some underground contact system that is probably better than the CIA."

A major break in the case came late last week though when authorities picked up Aaron Cannon and Jordan Cook in Grimes County in connection to all the thefts.

On Monday, Corey Middleton, was also taken into custody for his alleged involvement.

So far more than $150,000 dollars worth of stolen property has been recovered and investigators are still working on new leads.

"Each time we arrest another one, they just open the door to other recoveries and other involved parties," said Neeley.

Sheriff Neeley expects to make more arrests in the coming days and weeks and gives a warning to the criminals still out there, "It's just a matter of time. It may be daylight or it may be three in the morning -- we have no problem busting your door down to get a thief, so it will happen."

Last month investigators broke up a similar, smaller theft ring in Waller County.
