NAVASOTA -- In Navasota friends and families lined the streets for the annual Red, White and Blue parade downtown.
And while many enjoyed their day off some local businesses decided to remain open.
The Page family, like many, is enjoying their day off by spending it together.
"I think the 4th of July is a great time to ask everyone in America to slow down a little and get away from their jobs," said Bret Page.
But Patty Tokoly, owner of The French Market, says she isn't letting today's holiday shut her business down.
"We see it as an opportunity. It's festive. Right out on the sidewalk the parade goes by and it's just fun to be here."
And while many businesses closed to honor the holiday, Tokoly says she's just observing our Independence Day in a different way.
"For us to have this business and to be able to be open and celebrate, it goes directly to all those soldiers who gave their all for our country."
Giving us the freedom to choose how we want to spend our Independence Day.
