Central Texas — Now that the holiday season is almost over, it's time to start taking down Christmas trees.
Waco, Temple, Killeen and nearly every other Central Texas town has a free recycling program for residents.
Some will even chip down trees into mulch for you.
Thomas Pechal of Temple Fire and Rescue said a dried out Christmas tree can also be a fire hazard for homeowners.
Trees that are completely sapped of all moisture can cause a very intense fire.
Pechal said, "A Christmas tree fire can generate enough heat to cause a 'flashover' which can cause everything in the room to ignite from the high heat produced. It can cause a very quick fire that can cause some devastating results.”
