Local city to take over humane society
WACO -- By the end of this month the city of Waco will assume all operational control over the Humane Society of Central Texas.
This decision comes after Director Gina Ford was fired over a controversial e-mail she sent to a volunteer firing her.
City Manager Larry Groth said the current contract between the city and humane society will end on September 29 and at that time the city will take over.
"Between now and the end of this month we'll, we will work out our relationships. We know for sure that we will run the intake, basically the animal control functions and they will continue doing adoptions and education," said Groth.
Don Bland, the society's former development director, has been selected to serve as interim executive director until a permanent director is hired.
