The annual Battle of the Badges is back this year in Waco.

It's a friendly competition between local law enforcement to see who can donate the most blood in one week.

The annual blood drive is a contest between both the Waco police and fire departments, as well as the McLennan Sheriff’s department.

A mobile donation center will be visiting the three departments this week.

You can participate too by donating blood yourself and voting for your favorite department.

The winners get bragging rights and the coveted Battle of the Badges trophy.

Sgt. Swanton of Waco PD said it's a good way to potentially save lives, and of course remind other departments who is the best.

“We always have a little fun with it. We tease the fire department with, ‘Why did god create policemen? Because firemen need heroes. It’s good natured fun. It’s just a good-spirited competition to see who can come up with the most blood for a good worthy cause to help folks out that are in need.”
