Waco, Tx — McLennan County prosecutors are speaking out in support of Senator John Cornyn's Line of Duty Act of 2013.
McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna says he strongly believes in the rights of the second ammendment, which allows citizens to protect themselves.
"I have always strongly believed in the right of all citizens to protect themselves and their families memorialized in the Second Amendment. Given the recent events in Kaufman County, I appreciate Senator Cornyn's efforts to reaffirm those rights on behalf of myself and my fellow prosecutors throughout the United States. Our efforts to protect ourselves and our families must not be restricted when those who seek to harm us do so without any restrictions," said Reyna.
Senator Cornyn introduced the bill about a week ago, following the Kaufman County slayings of the DA, his wife, and the assistant DA.
This new legislation would allow local governments to provide security for prosecutors and judges who are in danger of retaliation or intimidation.
those officials would also be allowed to carry weapons for self defense.
