WACO -- Mitt Romney's announcement Saturday morning that U.S. Representative Paul Ryan will be his running mate has McLennan County republican leaders buzzing with confidence.
"He bridges the gap between the campaign and the grassroots that was needed," said Toby Walker, Waco Tea Party president.
"His fiscal policies and his revamping of Medicare are going to be a great asset to Romney's campaign," said Janet Jackson, State Republican Executive Committee Woman.
"The tea party's core principals are fiscal responsibility, free markets and a limited government and we think he exemplifies all three of these," said Becky Kodrin, Waco Tea Party secretary.
They also say he is Romney's key to middle America.
"That in itself is going to be a great asset because it takes it away from an elitist ticket to one who envelopes everyone," said Jackson.
The latest polls show it's a pretty tight race so local republicans tell us Romney's choice for VP brought a sense of relief.
"Paul Ryan makes my job a lot easier in McLennan County to energize the base, get the republicans out to vote to carry our county and state for Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney," said Ralph Patterson, Chairman-Elect for the McLennan County Republican Party.
